Chris Vance jumps from “Prison Break” to “Dexter” and now to “Rizzoli & Isles“. The 39-year-old actor has booked a role on the TNT’s hit series as Sgt. Major Charles “Casey” Jones, TV Line reports.
Casey is one of the men in Rizzoli’s past who steps back into her circle when she’s struggling to recover from being shot and nearly killed in the line of duty. He’s a Boston cop who is described in the casting call as “strong-silent-type”.
Casey will first appear on the first episode of season 2, which is premiering July 11. He would probably be accompanied by the other Boston Cop named Rico Cruz, a sexy Latino detective who gets under Jane’s skin and battles with Boston’s best police woman for control over certain investigations. Actor is yet to be cast as Rico.
Beside these cops, season 2 will bring in as well Rizzoli’s little brother named Tommy and a sidekick for Isles named Michi Tada. Tommy is a convicted criminal recently released from prison while Michi is “part goth, part harajuku girl’ working with Isles in the coroner’s office.

Following the report that “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” producers preferred to pick a relatively-unknown actor like Whitfield when he first started, a new report surfaces that they are considering the otherwise.
“Prison Break” star Dominic Purcell has reportedly sent them a screen test video for the titular role last Friday, January 7 while he was vacationing in Australia. Deadline said Starz has approached actor for the part although they already had another actor in mind, Liam McIntyre.
Australian McIntyre was allegedly the lead contender but his thin physique was a problem. While McIntyre is still working to bulk up the mass, Purcell already has the body to make a convincing gladiator.
It is unclear whether the producers have made a decision. During TCA Press Tour last week, Starz’s president Chris Albrecht said the network brass are “confident that we will find an actor who can ably step into Spartacus’ sandals.” Production is expected to begin soon for a premiere later this year.
Interestingly, it was reported back in October that Purcell’s “Prison Break” co-star Wentworth Miller also expressed an interest to take over the role. Purcell was the last minute addition to “Prison” which may also be the case on “Spartacus” if he nails the role.

ABC has signed executive producer/director Kevin Hooks to its upcoming crime drama “Detroit 1-8-7.”
He will executive produce and direct at least two episodes.
The UTA-repped Hooks was executive producer of the Fox hit “Prison Break” for four seasons; he also exec produced and shot the pilot for ABC Family’s “Lincoln Heights.”
“Detroit” will air at 10 p.m. Tuesdays in the fall after the “Dancing With the Stars” results show.

Another high-profile U.S. series, “Prison Break,” is about to get an intriguing foreign treatment — this time in Russia. Channel One Russia, the leading broadcaster in the territory, is partnering with Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution to develop a full 22-episode localized version of the Fox drama series.
The deal marks the broadcaster’s first acquisition of a big-budget U.S. drama scripted format from a major Hollywood studio. No financial details of the arrangement were available. Several other Russian broadcasters have successfully customized U.S. dramas, including versions of producer Dick Wolf’s “Law & Order” franchise.
Red Square Cinema and Russian Project Studio have been commissioned by Channel One for the series, and a team of top producers and writers has been assembled to adapt the scripted format for its Russian audience. The cast, which is currently under selection, will be announced shortly. Series launch is tentatively scheduled for fall 2010.
Appointed production staff to date includes Konstantin Ernst and Denis Evstigneev who have been assigned as executive producers. Andrei Malyukov will direct while Youri Korotkov will act as chief writer.
The original version of “Prison Break” debuted on Fox in 2005 and ran four years. It was created by Paul T. Scheuring and tells the story of Michael, a man whose brother is on death row for a murder Michael is convinced he did not commit. With no other options and time winding down, Michael holds up a bank to get himself incarcerated alongside his brother Lincoln in the state pen. The series was licensed around the world by Fox and aired in primetime in many territories.
” ‘Prison Break’ has been one of this studio’s signature franchises both in the U.S. and abroad and we are excited that it will take on a new life in this Russian version,” said Fox Television Chairmen Gary Newman and Dana Walden in a statement. “It goes to prove what we’ve always believed at the studio: Great storytelling and big ideas will always attract audiences, no matter what culture or country.”
” ‘Prison Break’ has already been a phenomenal success around the world,” added Yoni Cohen, Fox’s SVP International development & sales. “There are few broadcasters that have such a distinguished track record in drama production. Channel One is the perfect partner for this franchise.”

This project marks the latest result in a long-standing relationship between Channel One and Fox. Prior to this deal, Channel One had acquired a number of the studio’s series including “24,” “Lie to Me,” “Modern Family,” “White Collar” and “Life on Mars.” The relationship between the two companies expanded further when Fox’s theatrical division acquired two of the station’s feature films, “Night Watch” and “Day Watch.” The two companies continue to collaborate further on feature films through Fox Theatrical’s Moscow office.
